Sunday’s Letter

Hello our lovely Francesca and Liam,

Hope you’ve had a good weekend. Back to school and nursery tomorrow. We went out today to am 82nd birthday party today. I thought it was yesterday so it was a good job I’d checked.

I’ve been working on my second novel today and I’m finally beginning to get it back into order after re-arranging some of the chapters. It’s nice to see it finally emerging. Perhaps one day, you two might get to read it, who knows.

Sleep tight, then and we hope that you have really lovely dreams,
Lots and lots and lots of love, from,
Grandma and Grandad xxxx

Saturday’s Letter

Dear Liam and Francesca,

It’s pretty late tonight when I write as I’ve been at a Trans-Siberian March Band gig. It was a joint birthday party for about five people. They’d all got together and hired a venue. It was in Primrose hill and called the Museum of Everything. It was a strange place but really nice inside. There were all sorts of paintings and sculptures and many different things. It went very well.

I’m pretty tired now. I had my sax lesson earlier on and my teacher said that I’m getting on OK. That was good, eh? I’ve got a lot more practice, though before I’ll be able to play in a band but hopefully I’ll get there.

Well, hope you two are tucked up warm and having nice dreams,
We’re off to bed now, so,
Night, night,
We love you lots,
Grandma and Grandad xxxx

Friday’s Letter

Dear Francesca and Liam,

Are you ready for the new weekend? I hope so. I hope that you’ve got something great planned for the next couple of days.

I’ve got a really busy day tomorrow. I’ve got my sax lesson tomorrow at 11 o’clock. Then I have to go to an 82nd birthday party at lunch time. Then, in the evening, the Trans-Siberian March Band has a gig. It’s a birthday party and we’re playing a bit earlier than usual so it shouldn’t be quite so late when we get home.

I’ve been working on my novel today. It’s the first time for about a week and I’ve really missed it. It takes quite a time to get back into it when you’ve been away. You have to rember who all the characters are. Anyway, I enjoyed it.

So, sleep tight and sweet dreams my dear ones,
Lots and lots and lots of love, from,
Grandma and Grandad xxxx

Thursday’s Letter

Dear Liam and Francesca,

We were thinking about you again today. We went to pick up Thomas from school. We have made a book together, it’s about slitheens. It’s called the Slitheen Farm. There’s lots of different slitheen animals on the farm like slitheen cows and slitheen chickens. Thomas wrote it and I helped with the pictures, jusy like you and I used to do, Francesca.

Tonight, I was copying some photos for my sax teacher. He’s played with a lot of quite famous people when he was younger and I’ve copied some photos of the olden days for him.

I’m off to bed now,
Hope you’re tucked up warm and safe,
Talk to you tomorrow,
Love,
Grandma and Grandad.

Wednesday’s Letter

Hello Francesca and Liam,

I’ve just got back from Barnet Band. I had to play trumpet tonight because Mary wasn’t there and I found it quite hard. I had a rehearsal on Monday and I need more that one day to recover. It makes me realise that I’m getting old.

I went downtown for a meeting today and stopped in a sax shop on the way back. I wanted to have a look at some soprano saxophones for when I buy one. It reminded me of when I went to buy a trumpet mouthpiece and you, Francesca went with us. Do you remember? The man showed us a beautiful pocket trumpet which you really liked. It became a dream of mine that, one day, I would buy it for you. It was a dream.

I hope that you are getting on well with the music you’re doing and, most-importantly, enjoying it. What do you think, Liam? Do you listen to Francesca practising? Will you want to play something one day? I do hope so.

Ah well, I’m off now to dream. I don’t know what about but I’ll bet you two are in it, so,

Night, night,
All our love from
Grandma and Grandad xxxx

Tuesday’s Letter

Hello My Dears,

Your Grandad is now pretty lost as to what to say to you. Your Mummy has told us how well you are doing without us. We want you to do well – at everything. We want you to be happy. If you are happy without us, we have to just be pleased that you are happy. What else would a Grandma and Grandad want for two dear grandchildren who were once so close. So, what do I say now? I don’t know.

I can tell you what we did today and how, whatever we did, you were are a part of it. I’m afraid that we can’t help that. I can only speak for myself now but you two were a part of me. I don’t have to try to remember you, to remember all the things we did together or how happy you made me. It’s always there and always will be. Nothing will ever take that away.

You’ll be in our dreams tonight and they’re the happy dreams which make going to sleep worthwile.

Night night then
Sweet, sweet dreams,

Grandma and Grandad xxxx

Monday’s Letter

Dear Liam and Francesca,

I now know that you’ve settled in well and are both happy. I’ve just had an email from your Mummy to tell me. I’m really so happy to know that you’re getting on well and making new friends. I’m so,so pleased that you’re doing so many things, Francesca, especially the music. And I’m pleased too Liam that you get along well with everyone in the village.

There’s not much more I can think of to say, except that Grandma and I wish you all the very best in the future and that we love you so, so much,

Bye bye,
Grandad xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Sunday’s Letter

Dear Francesca and Liam,

It’s back to school/nursery tomorrow, eh? Hope you both had a great weekend. Our weekend was pretty quiet and we didn’t go out very much.

Tonight we had a committee meeting of Barnet Band to decide what we’d be doing throughout the coming year. We had to decide how many gigs we would play at and things like that. We also decided to run a competition for school children in Barnet to write a piece of music. We will then get it orchestrated and play it at our first concert next year as well as giving the winner and their school a prize. It should be very interesting to see what they produce. It would be great if you could come to the concert, wouldn’t it?

Ah well, keep dreaming those nice dreams and let’s hope they all come true!

Tons and tons of love, from,
Grandma and Grandad,
Night, night xxxxx

Saturday’s Letter

Dear Liam and Francesca,

Had a good day today? We hope so. Did you see any of your friends at all?

I’ve been trying to find someone who used to work for me as I need to ask her something. I’ve been searching everywhere and I think I’ve found her address. We’ll go and see tomorrow if that’s where she still lives.

Apart from that, I’ve been doing some work on the book for the university and it’s nearly finished. Tonight I mended the drawer from the set of drawers in the loft room and we’re trying to get that tidied up a bit for when a friend comes to stay.

Hope you having nice dreams about what you’re going to do tomorrow,
Sleep tight,
Grandma and Grandad xxxx

Friday’s Letter

Dear Francesca and Liam,

It’s a bit earlier today when I’m writing. You should be at home now and looking forward to the weekend. I hope so. We wonder what you do now at weekends. Do you see your new friends, play in the garden? It’s hard for us to imagine what you’re doing now.

As for us we’ve not got much planned for the weekend. Grandma is out at the moment. She’s gone to pick Thomas up from school. He really misses you, you know. He asked me the other day, ‘Grandad, do you miss Francesca and Liam?’ and when I said Yes, he seemed quite sad and said, ‘Yes, I do too’. There’s a lot of people here who miss you, not only us.

Well, hope you’re going to have a good evening and a great weekend,
We’ll be thinking about you,
All our love,
Grandma and Grandad xxxx
