Sunday Morning

Dear Francesca and Liam,

Have you been out today? We stayed in and I’ve been trying to catch up on things that I didn’t do last week. There’s a lot to do, though.

Tonight, we’re going out to a meeting in Letchworth and I’m getting a lift there so it will be nice not to have to drive.

I hope that you’re both OK, we’ll keep you in touch with what’s going on,
Hope you have a nice day, today,
We keep thinking of you,
Lots of love,
Grandma and Grandad xxxx

Dear Liam and Francesca,

Are you two looking forward to the weekend? I hope so.

We’re back at home now and busy unpacking. Tonight, we’re going to a concert which a friend of ours is in. The concert’s over in Harrow so we’re going to use Lizzie to get there.

We got back very late last night as the plane was late. When we got back to the airport, there were no tubes, no trains and no buses. In the end, we had to get a taxi.

We were surprised that when we got home, your post-card had already arrived. Did you know that we still send you a postcard when we go anywhere? We have to send it to here because we don’t know where you live. Hopefully, one day you’ll be able to read them and remember us.

Well, hope you’re tucked up safely in bed and having sweet dreams,

Night night and all our love, from,

Grandma and Grandad xxxx

Friday’s Letter

Dear Francesca and Liam,

Today, we’re going back home. We’re going to do a bit of shopping first and then go to the airport. It’s quite cold here so I don’t think that we’ll walk around for too long. It’s also raining and windy.

We waited for hours for the plane and it was very, very late. I’ll tell you more about this tomorrow.

Hope you’re both well,
We’ll write tomorrow,
All our love,
Grandma and Grandad xxxx

Thursday

Dear Liam and Francesca,

Hope you’re both OK. We went to visit Tante Else today, in Ludwigshafen. We went by train to Manheim and then caught a local train to Ludwigshafen. We walked from the station to Tante Else’s. It was quite a nice day for walking. It was about lunchtime when we arrived there and a lot of the children were coming out of school and some were still playing in their playgrounds. It made us think of you two and what you would be doing at that time.

Tante Else told us about your Dady’s visit to Ludwigshafen and asked how you were. We had to say that we weren’t sure but hoped that you were OK. It’s quite difficult when people ask us, you know.

Well, hope the weather’s OK where you are, we’ll keep you in touch,
Lots and lots of love from,
Grandma and Grandad xxxx

Wednesday Letter

Dear Francesca and Liam,

Today we went to visit your cousin Thomas, that’s the one who lives in Germany. We went to Mainz by train and he met us at the station.

We went for a walk along the Rhine and then we went to eat at a nice restaurant. It was great to see him again. I’ve not seen him for quite some time. Your Daddy went over last summer to see him. Do you remember?

We’re back in the hotel now and going to turn in so we hope that you’re tucked up safe and warm,
We’ll write tomorrow,

Night, night,
Grandma and Grandad xxxx

Back in Frankfurt

Hi there,

We are now back in Frankfurt after visiting Claudia. We saw Miriam and Stefan as well and it was very nice to talk to them. Stefan gave us a lift back to the station which was good as it is raining.

We had a bit of a problem getting there as the doors on the train wouldn’t open and then we saw a notice saying that they were broken. It was a real surprise to us and we had to run to the next door along. By the time we got there, the driver had locked the doors and we couldn’t get off. We had to go further and then get a train back. Poor Claudia had come to the station to meet us and had to go home as we’d not got her mobile phone number. It was a whole hour later by the time we met each other. Anyway, we got there in the end!

We’re back in the hotel now so we survived. Hope you’re tucked up nice and warm. We’ll keep in touch,

Lots of love from,
Grandma and Grandad xxxx

Letter from Frankfurt

Dear Liam and Francesca

We’re in Frankfurt today. We got here OK and got to the hotel easily. It’s been a bit wet here some of the time but was fine this afternoon. We’ve done some sightseeing today and went down to the river and had a look at the new developments there.

Tomorrow, we’re off to see your second cousin Claudia and her family. We have to be up quite early to catch the train so we’re off to bed now.

Hope that you’re tucked up safe and warm,
We’ll keep in touch,
Lots of love, from,

Off to Germany!

Dear Francesca and Liam,

It’s the middle of the morning today when I write today. I wonder what you’re doing at the moment. Whether you’re at home or out.

We’re all packed and ready to set off for London City Airport to fly to Frankfurt. We’ve never flown from there before so it will be a new experience. We’ll be seeing all the relatives when we’re over there so that will be nice. I know they’ll all ask for you so we’ll give them your love. I’m sure you’d want us to do that.

At the moment, Grandma is talking to your cousin Claudia so I guess we’ll be seeing them soon. They live quite near to Frankfurt. It would be great if you were coming with us. One day, eh? They’d all really love to meet you both.

Well, I must go, we’ve a plane to catch,

Look after yourselves and have a good day,
We’ll keep in touch,
Love,
Grandma and Grandad xxxx

Saturday’s Letter

Hello Liam and Francesca,

Hope you’re having a great weekend. We’re busy getting ready to go off to Germany tomorrow. We’ll be over there until Friday. It won’t really matter where we are as we’ll still keep thinking about you.

We’ll try to write but we don’t know yet whether we’ll always be able to get onto the internet. We’ll try our best, though.

Sleep tight now,
And we’ll keep in touch,
Night, night,
Grandma and Grandad xxxx

Friday’s Letter

Dear Francesca and Liam,

Tomorrow’s the weekend and we wonder what you do in your weekends now. We haven’t got too much planned for tomorrow.

Today, I went to Trent Park for a meeting about the books I’m writing. It has lots of memories, that place. One of them is when I went there with your your Mummy when she was doing a course before she started at university. I remember that really well.

When I got back, I had a phone call to say that Thomas was coming to see us with his Mummy and Daddy and his sister, Lucy. It was a really nice surprise. We did some work on Thomas’ latest book and then he played on the Wii. Tonight, I had a little go on it and quite enjoyed it but I’m now quite tired!

Tomorrow’s the weekend, hope you’re looking forward to it,
Night, night,
Have a good sleep and get ready for an exciting day tomorrow,
All our love, from,
Grandma and Grandad xxxx
